Safer Schools App
Online Safety is one of our top priorities at Rainham School for Girls and we want to equip our students with the knowledge and skills to use technology safely and effectively on their learning journey. Within the current climate that we find ourselves in, online material is being accessed more often than ever before, whether that is for school purposes or keeping in touch with friends and family. We would like to introduce the Safer Schools App which is accessible to all of our students, parents/carers and members of staff. This app will be available to download on all Apple and Android devices for free through the relevant application store.
The app is designed to support and protect children by educating and empowering them both at school and at home. Through their log-in, your children get access to information that is relevant to them straight through their phone and you will receive tips and advice on how to keep them safer online. There are many fantastic features of this application which you and your child can explore using the audio guides linked below. In addition to the app, I will be running 1:1 Online Safety Workshops with identified students remotely and in person on return to school - if you would like to find out more about this, please do get in touch with me.
Below are some key features of the app for parents and carers in particular:
Interactive and engaging course content which is easy to-access, simple to understand and intuitive to use
Pupils, parents and carers can complete their own digital tests on the basic ‘Need to Know’ online safety principles, while testing their knowledge on Gaming, Social Media and much more
Features for parents and carers to build their knowledge and confidence in their own digital parenting skills
Support to make your home safe, your child’s device safer and empower you to deal with some critical issues linked to online behaviour and risk
Another feature that will also be available through the app to all users are push notifications. These notifications will include real time trend alerts and emerging risks to children whilst online. With this app being rolled out across the school for all members of staff, every student and parents and carers, we feel this will be a great resource to get everyone making use of and will develop the knowledge of online safety for all and create an extra tool to improve the safety of your child when online.
Please find a link to an audio guide that will go through the features of the app, how to make use of the app for both parents/carers and students, and all of the QR and access codes to the app along with download instructions: https://www.loom.com/share/7a2015caea224fb089d211d6ef27a7c0.
