Personal Development

Our Intent

Our whole curriculum intent is underpinned by ambition, richness and thoughtfulness and designed to support students in knowing more, understanding more and demonstrating more.

Personal Development at RSG is extensive and is driven by the ethos that each child has the opportunity and encouragement to develop and grow into their best selves. Our Personal Development Journey starts with Year 7, continually developing character and preparing students for the world, until they depart our Sixth Form at the end of Year 13. In such a large school, the sense of belonging is incredibly strong and students are supported to thrive through our excellent pastoral care which nurtures happy, healthy students both mentally and physically. A wide menu of clubs and enrichment activities takes learning beyond the classroom and develops individual talents. C.A.R.E values give a strong sense of identity and teach tolerance and how to celebrate differences. Careers education, information, advice and guidance ensures all students can continue on their ambitious pathways with confidence, motivation and independence. Relationship and Sex Education and Personal Social and Health Education is taught as part of the integrated curriculum and draws on the expertise of many external services meaning students feel safe and are equipped to successfully navigate the ever changing world we live in.RSG Journey

The RSG P.R.O.M.I.S.E is a charter we ask all students to engage in. This is one way we bring our values to life. The C.A.R.E. values describe the behaviours and attitudes we expect from students and the Promise is what gives students a platform to put these into practice and beyond.

The Leadership Network

The Leadership Network was created to join together all leaders from across the school, with the aim of learning and growing together as a whole community. The Leadership in school is strong and we all believe that we can achieve more together. #collaboration

Student Leadership at RSG is diverse and there is definitely something for everyone!

We have a variety of discrete roles such as:

  • School Ambassador Groups
  • Form Captains
  • School Journalist Team
  • Year Group Prefects
  • Rainham 6th Junior Leadership Team

These groups are all supported by adults who share the same passion for personal growth and development, together training leaders of the future! Below is an outline of the Leadership opportunities and when they are availble to our students.

Student Ambassadors

Did you know we have 10 different student Ambassador groups that help run our school:

  • LGBTQ+ Group
  • Diversity Group
  • Junior Leadership Team
  • Sixth form Ambassadors
  • Sports Ambassadors
  • Anti-bullying Ambassadors
  • School Council
  • Eco Ambassadors
  • ACE Ambassadors
  • Teaching and Learning Ambassadors

All of these groups are wonderful role models who run projects throughout the year, promoting each of their groups’ ethos. They listen to student voices, help deliver messages in assembly around their group ethos and lead the school in events such as open events and parents evenings.

Throughout the academic year our Sixth Form students also complete their own enrichment programme. They are required to complete at least twenty hours of enrichment, but many continue their tasks as they are essential to the RSG community.

Many of our Sixth Formers choose to be mentors to younger students and receive specialist training in how to support and direct younger students to the pastoral staff.

Some choose to become subject mentors and support others in their academic studies, in class or during form times.

Our Sixth Formers run a very successful reading programme supporting all year groups with their fluency and comprehension. One of the most visible enrichment groups choose to showcase our Sixth Form on open evenings, parents’ evenings and other special events ensuring that they represent Rainham Sixth as the successful community it is.

Here is what some of students say about our Student Leadership groups.

Student Ambassador Testimonials

At our school we are proud to host a broad range of clubs and activities. Whether you’re looking for something academic, sports or arts based, we have something for everyone. At lunch times, across the school, homework drop-in sessions are run, as well as PE club every day come rain or shine. Bubble Club is a new and popular lunch club, run by our Sixth Form for younger students who want to make new friends.
The Sixth Form also offers a ‘tea and biscuits’ club for older students who want to socialise once a week. Our LGBTQ+  and Diversity club also meets weekly, where everyone is welcome to come along and meet new people. After school, amongst our academic clubs offered to support learning, you can study in the IRC until 4:30. In addition to this, we have a whole host of other opportunities for our students. Sport is a vibrant and celebrated part of life at our school, reflecting our deep passion for physical activity and team spirit. This commitment has been recognised with the Medway School Games Gold Award for two consecutive years—a testament to the hard work and enthusiasm of our students and staff. We are proud of the high levels of participation in extracurricular clubs, with many students actively involved in a wide range of sports in and outside of school. We also run several programmes such as The Duke of Edinburgh Award, Sports Leader Award and Student Leader Award. Excitingly, we have a partnership with our local animal sanctuary, Creepy Claws, who visit us every week to teach students about animals and how to care for and protect them.

These are our favourite times of the year, where our students are treated to the fun and excitement of something a little bit different.

Eco Day:

Our Eco Day is dedicated to inspiring students to care for our planet by promoting environmental responsibility and sustainability. Through activities focused on cleaning our school environment, cycling and recycling initiatives, learning about renewable energy, and appreciating the natural world, we encourage students to develop respect for the Earth and take positive action for a cleaner, greener future.

Culture Day:

Our Culture Day celebrates and embraces the rich diversity of our school community. Through learning new languages, sharing traditional foods, showcasing cultural fashion, and engaging in music and art workshops, we foster understanding, respect, and pride in our unique heritages. This vibrant celebration encourages students to appreciate different cultures while sharing their own, building a more inclusive and connected school family.

Festival Day and Colour Run:

Our Festival Day is a vibrant celebration that brings the entire school community together during the last week of the school year. Students enjoy a fun-filled day featuring a relaxed picnic, a Summer Show performance, exciting inflatable activities, and the highlight of the day—the Colour Run Charity event. This energetic event is all about fun, friendship, and creating lasting memories, while strengthening the sense of community across the school.

Charity

At Rainham Girls, we are committed to fostering a compassionate and socially responsible community where every student is empowered to make a positive difference. Rooted in our C.A.R.E values, we actively encourage students to engage with charitable causes at every level — local, national, and international.

Through partnerships with local charities, we support and uplift our immediate community, learning first hand the power of neighbourly kindness. At a national level, we participate in campaigns that address wider societal challenges, promoting awareness and action across our country. Globally, we embrace our role as global citizens, contributing to international initiatives that aim to improve lives and protect the planet.
