Safer school

At Rainham School for Girls we pride ourselves on exceptional standards of pastoral care from Y7 through to Y13. Our programme of pastoral care begins well before students join the school. We visit children at their primary school to answer any questions they may have and to invite them to Rainham School for Girls to meet their new Form Tutor, Pastoral Support Officer, Director of Studies and other students joining our learning community. We have a full and varied Year 7 Transition Week so new students get a really great feel for our school family and feel reassured and confident for their September start. Parents and carers of new students are invited to a special meeting in their first term. Our students' wellbeing is our number one priority and we offer excellent wraparound care for the young people in our care at school. If you have any safeguarding concerns please contact your child's Pastoral Support Officer or our Child Protection Team (CP Team) on 01634 362746. We welcome and encourage parents and carers to contact the Designated Safeguarding Leads to discuss any issues and we will guide and support with putting the appropriate actions in place so our students can be the best possible versions of themselves.

Each student is placed into a carefully chosen tutor group upon joining the school, based on the child’s preference, parental preference and advice from the primary school teachers which is sought during our transition programme.

The pastoral support structure for each year group is as follows:

  • Director of Studies/ Assistant Director of Studies
  • Pastoral Support Officer
  • Form Tutor
  • Mentors

We also have our Ambition Tutor Programme and our Child Protection Team with Designated Safeguarding Leads, School Health Coordinator and a full-time School Councillor.

Please visit our sections on Wellbeing and Safer Schools to find out more about the guidance and support we offer students with mental health, wellbeing and online safety.
