RSHE

At Rainham School for Girls we recognise the importance of relationship, sex and health education (RSHE). The purpose of RSHE is to prepare our pupils for the physical and emotional changes of growing up; to give them the knowledge and skills to make informed and healthy choices; to build their confidence and skills to deal with situations that they may encounter; to help them to stay safe and to know where and how to ask for help if needed. RSHE is provided through bespoke tutor time activities and extra specialised provision with our full time health co-ordinator and in house counsellor, along with one-to-one and group workshops to provide support for topics such as E-Safety, self-esteem and managing emotions. RSHE is woven throughout the curriculum in areas such as Science, ADT and PE. Our students also take part in a series of relationship and sex education (RSE) lessons as part of their personal, social and health education. Students follow a spiral curriculum in which key themes of staying safe and healthy relationships are revisited and developed according to their age. We strive to ensure that what is taught is relevant to all of our students and that requirements given by the Equality Act (2010) are followed along with the statutory RSE 2020 framework.
